Fun treat - don't take it too seriously

I keep seeing negative reviews for this film and don't understand why? A lot of people used the word "boring" while it literally can't be used to describe it. Simple? Sure. Dumb? Yes. Boring? Hell no.

It's a typical popcorn horror to watch with friends and have fun. The "who done it" comes into full effect while everyone contributes in their own way. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously and makes fun of social tropes. If that's not your thing, I understand, but it is in no way boring.

The pace is pretty good, acting performances are solid, very intense and keeps your attention. I had a good laugh multiple times which says a lot considering I don't like horror comedies. The aspects I liked the most about this film are it's self awareness and genuinely not knowing who did it midway through. I'd recommend watching this for Halloween with a group of friends and having a blast! Not a masterpiece but a solid 7/10 from me.

Bodies Bodies Bodies, is Boring Boring Boring

When I saw the trailers for this film I thought it would be trash and that's exactly what I was given. The only reason I watched this film was because of the positive ratings it's currently receiving on IMDb and Letterboxd, so I thought maybe I'm wrong and being an A24 fan I wanted to be. But dear God was this film so unbelievably boring, the worst A24 film I've ever seen.

This will be quick as I literally didn't like anything about this film, the characters are absolutely annoying. They are incredibly unlikeable and nothing about them is interesting. The "story" is boring bordering on nonexistent. I know it's satirical but it's boring, uninteresting, and terrible.

The only thing that wasn't straight trash were the performances which were passable at best. I will mention Maria Bakalova as Bee and Lee Pace as Greg in a positive light as they were the only likeable characters. In the end all this film did for me was fortify how annoying I find this generation to be.

If this film is supposed to be comedy it's not funny, if it's supposed to be horror it's not scary, if it's supposed to be a slasher the kills are boring, if it's supposed to be a thriller it's sure as hell not thrilling. The films conclusion is damn near a slap in the face, to suffer the one hour and 34 minute run time which felt like two hours and for it to all literally be for nothing was insulting. Perhaps that's the point to show how desperate and unpredictable people get during moments of crisis. All I could think after that reveal was "Good lord all of this for nothing" it was an absolute waste of time. The only good thing about that ending was how possible and true it could be to life.

This was a huge swing and a miss for A24 I don't understand how or why they would produce such trash. Oh well it's not for me simple as that, if the rest of you like it then I'm happy for you.

A suspenseful, pleasantly different who-dunnit

I liked it. Yes, it's a bit talkative, but that didn't really bother me, since the dialogues are pleasantly sharp and added wonderfully to the toxic and ominous atmosphere of mutual suspicion between this group of (supposed) friends. The settings (a luxurious villa, thunder and lightning, lights falling out, etcetera) are of course über-cliché, but somehow it all felt fresh and very convincing, helped by an evident tongue-in-cheek vibe. The story was well written, there is no real gore, but a lot of genuine suspense, and I loved the surprising (and cynical) twist at the very end. The acting in this kind of movies usually doesn't have the highest priority, but here it was actually pretty good.
